There was yahoo chat rooms, there was Romeo, there was Indiantimes chatroom called Men2men. Craigslist. There was no dirth of platforms at that time. Even the crowd was good, no chapri or downmarket crowd. Decent people. |

My first laptop was in 2004 & we had Yahoo chat rooms from where I’ve made some lifetime connections that still exist. Crimes within community or perpetrations against it were non existent, reporting also was negligible so can’t comment much. |

I was using the gay rooms on Rediffchat and Indiatimes. Rediff used to be the best, all real instant meets after quick chats. Used to go to cybercafe for 30 mins, enter those Rediff chat rooms and I would come out with confirmed appointments every time. Those days no phones, so had to take my hookups' addresses and a meetup time before leaving the cybercafe. Since operating a computer demanded a certain intellect, my hookups were all educated decent crowd mostly young, and hardly faced ghosting. Fortunately, Ohmojo does has quality folks unlike dating apps like Grindr. |

I remember using Orkut at that time… have met one guy but I was in my college days and that guy was in his 35. I was scared as it was my first time. Didn’t happen much.
Now I think I missed the opportunity.

Yahoo rooms were in late 1990s and early 2000s....
I started using them when I was grade 9.
Mobile phones were not there.

We could meet lots of foreigners as they would check the local scene while in the city. Those days hotels were very cool, noone needed any ID to enter an hotel. Just say any name on the register and get into the room. No Aadhar or any ither identity. Guests were allowed in the room. Chat on Indiatimes, Yahoo etc. Fix time and meet. I was in teens and metany many corporate managers, Businessmen etc as those days only the educated and the rich had access to computer and internet. There was no cheap internet. Internet was ₹1/hr landline charge plus internet charges, which would cost around 50 rupees per hour, so the crowd was filtered, no fraudsters or slumdogs had access to it, only genuine educated English speaking people. |

Those days were really good. Genuine guys around and we used to meet for coffee or a smoke before getting into bed. Had some.jice experience when got hooked.up.with a guy in the same cyber cafe. There was yahoo messager room mumbai local chat 1. There were used to chat with other men. There was webcam and used to show moobs by opening couple of buttons. Cyber cafes used to have cabinet but couldn't used to do much. Just adjusting screen to see *** on webcam was possible.

Even before windows chats used to happen on web based sites. Yahoo Indiatimes etc etc. then Gay Romeo came. As internet acces was to elites the Chhapri crowd was not on this sites. For that you had cruising places toilets and loos….. |
