Some people have been putting forward an argument that society will not accept gay marriages. If we look back at the history of social reforms in India, we will see that society at large rarely accepts the reforms. The people whose voices we hear have been vocal against social reforms. In most cases laws bringing in these reforms were brought in, in spite of opposition to them. We can go as far back as banning of Sati, widow remarriage, age of consent, hindu code bill and so on. There are laws which ban untouchability and dowry, make these a crime; still these are practised even now. So the legal sanctity for reforms has mostly been preceding the societal acceptance. Same goes for same *** marriage. As it is, society at large doesnt have much to do with same *** marriage. It shouldnt matter to anyone unless the person getting married is your family member. But it gives a legal backing to those who want to have same *** life partner.

And if one is going by the argument of societal acceptance, then society does not accept homosexual acts even now. So those professing about society and its sensibility should immediately stop indulging in homosexual acts , lead a straight or celibate life. The first step should be to delete their profiles from online gay dating sites and apps.

Why r v caring so much for the society than nature. Nature gives us everything but this society never gave us anything. In present day scenario we hardly know who stays next door. We hardly consider and and care for others well-being coz we are so much engulfed and engrossed with our burden and problems. Whatever we want is served by money not by society. Right from air to water bottles every thing is provided by nature but this society polluted it and now selling it for money. The society is like a cunning wolf only our hardwork the money we earn helps us so the recognition of the society is not at all required if v have a good partner and enough money. Nothing is provided by the society but sold by the society. So earn money save it invest it multiply it and live lives jubilantly unto the end.

Even being gay I think it's too early for India to legalise gay marriages..
If I like some one u can live with him like a married couple.. but why u want to give it a name of marriage... I don't see any logic here..even if it is legalised, it's not going to benefit the community at large.. only few couple will be benefited.. rest will still remain in closet...

@Raajiv
Marriage comes with a lots of rights for spouses. Property, inheritance, financial support (you can take and pay loans together), buy a house together, get insurance together, add defendants as beneficiaries.

Just “living together” doesn’t grant those rights.

There if the logic you were missing.

@Rajiiv, I checked your profile. It says, you are married. So you might be bi. That's much different from being gay. Remember Its LGBT+. The reasons why same *** marriage should be legalised have been explained n number of times on this thread and elsewhere.

Our neighbouring country Nepal is ahead of us in matters of gay rights.

The supreme court of Nepal legalized gay marriages today. Can't believe even Nepal is more progressive than India. I hope we see the same verdict soon.

gay marriages are happening all over the world and there have been no adverse effects so far. in most countries that have permitted gay marriages and in those that have not, the main deterrent factor is FEAR. FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN. in the case of india: i do not think it will happen for another 20yrs. WHY? because we have a conservative govt that reflects on a conservative society, besides most of the top brass in the bjp suffer from pme. most indian men are bisexual, BUT will deny it. just check our defence forces..... they will *** anything that has a hole! that is EXACTLY what the indian people are like. 30% of our representatives in parliament are made of criminals! more than that are uneducated or educated upto high school level. HOW CAN ONE HAVE A DEBATE WITH SUCH IDIOTS??? the idea of gay marriage is FOREIGN to them though they enjoy FOREIGN ***, ENJOY *** with foreign women/prostitutes and participate in INDIAN gay ***! sadly gay *** for most indians is USE AND ABUSE!! the solicitor general of india objects to gay marriages as it is not INDIAN CULTURE, alledges incest is a natural thing which could lead to beastiality!! IF AN EDUCATED PERSON (with no morals) LIKE THE SG OF INDIA CAN MAKE SUCH ABSURD/IDIOTIC COMMENTS, imagine what the average citizen of india thinks/comprehends about gay marriage!!!

WHAT IS MARRIAGE? it is legalised prostitution.

from the comments i have read so far on this forum, most have valid points to consider regarding gay marriage. INDIA IS NOT READY. INDIANS AS THE MOST RACIST SOCIETY IN THIS WORLD, ARE NOT READY.

to my knowledge: marriage is done ONLY FOR LEGAL PURPOSES. if gay marriage is legalised, many will benefit from the legalised processes, though incian society will shun such people.
indian society: made up of family and friends and neighbours. HOW MANY CARE IF YOU ARE DEAD OR ALIVE? could you count on your fingers how many would HONESTLY help you if you were seriously sick or suddenly turned poor? YET......STUPIDLY WE CARE WHAT OTHERS THINK ABOUT US!!!

INDIANS ARE BEING DIVIDED BY THE BJP GOVT FOR THEIR SELFISH PURPOSES OF ELECTORAL GAINS AND ABILITY TO LOOT THE COUNTRY THROUGH A FEW QUID PRO QUO BUSINESS FRIENDS. WHY DOES THE LGBTQI COMMUNITY PLAY INTO THE 'DIVIDE AND RULE' AGENDA??? RISE AND SUPPORT EACH OTHER...UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL!

My 2 cents on this... Gay marriage legal or not legal, India is ready or not ready all is secondary. Primary question is do we really need concept of marriage?

Marriage is a commitment and responsibility between 2 people (MF or MM or FF). But my point is why do we need marriage to live happy life?

As we can mingle, meet & enjoy even without a marriage so why do we need marriage? Marriage is complex process. 2 people gets locked with certain expectation but what after sometime if one wanna venture outside so that flexibility you loose in marriage. And if one does he will be stamped as cheater. Hence i believe lets meet, enjoy, live in living etc etc but there is no need of marriage. Why every romantic story (MM, MF, FF) has to be concluded with Marriage in India?

@jackscs2005 Because marriage is not just about commitment and responsibilities.

It is about how the court and society treat our relationships.

If you are in a committed relationship with someone and you die, you would want your loved one to be taken care of.

If you get in an accident and you end up in a vegetative state, you want your life to be in the hands of the person you wake up next to, not in the hands of relatives who hate you because you are gay.

Marriage is about being accepted, as human beings, just like every other human being in India.

@VirginTop - thanks dude but my take on it is different. We spoil today for future. So many if --- why? So i believe, live in open relationship than in committed with so many future if.
off course you can cover yourself and plan for future.

Jaidesai69 it has nothing to do with the bjp govt. don’t bring ur political intentions here. It is the issue of Indian mindset and not a particular party or govt.

dont bring politics into this forum....I am sure be whichever political party be in power that party will not support the bill.....atleast be thankful that Gay *** is now not illegal here in India. here in India the people are still not ready to accept gay people...what we are talking is one sided most people in city understand but in rural area still the gay guys are humilated n looked down, so till the people in India are educated then only gay marriage will be accepted.

I guess India is progressing very fast.. don't forget that when gay *** was being legalised, there were so many opposing to it saying that it's not our culture, it will lead to this and that... But nothing happened.. gay *** was legalised and we are still same not affecting anything related to our culture..It is just that any new thing takes times to be digested here..
Now a days homosexuality is becoming too common scene in most of OTT and even mainstream cinema.. younger generation are accepting the fact that it's completely normal.. now a days I see young boys coming out to their parents and school mates..and are accepted happily.. all this we have achieved just in period of 4-5 years...
Ya for a generation older, it's still a stigma and with time it will wash away... Regarding legalising gay marriages... I thinks it's early but it has to start.. so that coming generation have a normal environment where they can breathe freely.. without being judged ...

CJI is all for marriage equality . The judges on the panel too. But they accepted the govt stand that changes to laws should be brought by the legislature and not by a court. I havent read all the judgements in details. Went through summary points. To expect anything from legislature seems futile right now. The current law minister was against scrapping of section 377 of IPC.

CJI had thrown ball in to government court. The government will make law if this BJP government is toppled.

Lol. The only way Congress will legalize Gay *** if there is an Olympic for Gay Couples, so that India can host it and they can make corruption.

Congress or BJP. Our society is not yet ready for Gay Marriages!!

If current party at Central legalise then they will get support of at least 5% of votes in their favour which can improve their number of seats - if they are wise they will do it

Waiting for some stupid monkeys to make a law for your sexuality is like India Inc begging East India Co. for its freedom & Independence. Don't wait for society and neither give your control to society either.

i stand by my comments about the bjp govt, that some have objected to. i have problems with people who support a party where MORALS ARE SECOND CLASS and the AGENDA is use/abuse of religion to stay in POWER. yes, most politicians HAVE NO MORALS AND MOST HAVE CRIMINAL CASES AGAINST THEM, YET WE VOTE FOR THEM! COMPARATIVELY, BJP LICKS THE CREAM OFF THE CAKE WHEN IT COMES TO MORALS. please refer to my comment on what the educated sg of india said in court in support of his bjp govt. as an lgbtqui+ member DO YOU SUPPORT THIS?
