As the world watches in horror the tensions unfolding, live visuals of Ukrainians showing braveness and valor even in the sight of advancing troops reignites flames of nationalism inside the hearts of people all around the globe for their own nations. We should salute and honor all those martyrs who are risking their lives in Ukraine and must pray for all residents who might face persecution after the subsequent military takeover.

The Ukrainian attitude towards their lgbtqia+ citizens had seen a shift in the recent decade towards favorability, against persecution by the state. Being a part of LGBTQIA+ demonym had been decriminalized in 1991 after independence from USSR and the state had put forward considerable non-discriminatory laws for their well being. The social attitude is also changing. All was done to rise Ukraine to European standards to enable them join EU.

We all are aware about the condition of LGBTQIA+ population in Russia. They are persecuted, publicly shunned and recent laws have declassified as a "mental illness".

What the mainstream misses in the regard of the whole war that unlike in Afghanistan where the Taliban wasn't popular even in general public, in Ukraine the general public is less likely to get persecuted since the establishment of a puppet state is more plausible that would not attract scorn per se. But the control and influence of Russia might dismantle years of progress as happened in case of Belarus. The reality is: LGBTQIA+ people are more likely to get persecuted than the general public. Already LGBTQIA+ Ukrainians have displayed concern towards anticipatory treatment they might receive from the Russian regime (CBS News), and the Russians have a "kill list" which includes LGBTQIA+ individuals (BBC News). It's time to show our solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Ukraine falling prey to Russian colonialism.

Let's pray for Ukraine. Stay safe.

This post is spot on. I am in the Eastern Europe. I have met many Russians who fled LGBT persecutions in their home country. Abled men in Ukraine cannot leave Ukraine now as they have been called upon to fight the invaders. Politicians lose nothing in the war while the common citizens lose everything!!!

Russia Is Taking Back What's There's.
Pre 91 borders included Donbass A Majority Russian Speaking Region Into Ukaraine.
Ukrainians Thought With help of US they can Grab Donbass For All the Eternity.
Alas Americans Showed Them Butts When Russians Came charging.
That's what Happens when U elect a Guy as president who loves playing Piano From his *** on live TV.
Now Coming to LGBTQ No State In The world or general Public is Favouring is Anywhere for them We are Pariahs and will remain Like that Forever.
War can Change that Status.
And Indians Helped by Russia All the time will not favour Ukaraine against Russia
Period.

@ItnaBadaLoda Pre 91? Pre 91 was a Soviet which carried out inhuman atrocities on other soviet occupied and satallite states. Took resources from these states and sent them to Moscow which made Moscow rich. They sent people to Gulags in Siberia. They did what Britishers did to India.
What do you know about Donbass? Just because it is Russian majority Ukarine should handover its territory to Russia? By that logic, do you support the Kashmiri Separatists who want to join Pakistan? Do you support Khalistan and a separate Bodoland? Because I dont, I want my India to remain united and strong. In the same way, every Ukrainian wants their country to remain united. I would suggest you to stop reading Indian right wing media and Russian state channels. It is all a propaganda to coverup their war crimes.
Who told you that no State in the world is favouring LGBT people? Have you travelled aorund the world? I have been to 45 countries so far and lived in 5, have been living in Eastern Europe for the last 7 years. Europe, Canada, New Zealand are the most LGBT friendly states. Justin Trudeau(Prime Minister of Canada), Jacinda Ardern (Prime Minister of New Zealand ) participate in the Pride Parades. These countries have better human rights index. There is marriage equality in 16 states of Europe and 31 coutries around the world. On contrary to these countries, LGBT people face violence in Russia which is state sponsored and in regions like Chechnya they are sent to camps. Police in Chechnya carry unlawful detentions & beatings of the LGBT people.I work with an NGO here which helps the at-risk LGBT memebers escape state persecution, we receive higher number of LGBT asylum seekers from Russia and middle eastern countries.Perpahs, in India we may be treated as Pariahs and this will not change for the future generations if we do not act as the calatyst to bring that change in our society, country.
A soverign country like Ukraine has the right to decide its alliance, but that doesnt give an excuse to Russia to invade Ukraine on a preconceived notion that Ukarine will attack them in the future. Russia cannot use an event which never happened as an excuse to kill the innocent civilians. If it was so concerned about security, then Russia could have used all its diplomatic might to bring NATO for the dialogue and if that failed they should have increased their military strength at the border and deployed nukes as a deterrent and be ready for the attack. Russia could have declared direct war on the US if it had so much problem with the NATO. Ukarine is just a scapegoat here.
@rohan_Kolkata your sympathy means nothing if you side with the perpetrator.
@ItnaBadaLoda I request you to broaden your thinking and have some empathy. As an LGBT person like yourself, you should know what persecution & injustice feels like. It is dehumanizing when someone takes away your basic rights.

boobi101, so when you said stop reading right wing media, it means they are siding with some ideology whatever is, so in the same way I feel same we should stop reading any media that takes sides. Do we have any independent media that doesn't side with particular ideology.
