Paava kathaigal (sin stories)

Submitted by Bear2cuddle Location: All India (All India, India)

For people who aren't from tamil background, paava kathaigal is an anthology by four different directors released in Netflix.

The most important aspect was the picturisation and an outstanding and applauding performance delivered by Kalidas jayaram as transgender from 80's falling in love with his childhood friend a hindu by birth, while his friend falls in love with the transgender's sister who hail from a Muslim community, at a rural village.

The pain a trans person goes through, the unrequited love, an affectionate brother who wants to live as a girl himself , if you haven't watched it you should go watch it.

While the other three stories are honor killing directed by vetrimaaran, a dark humor which touches the shades of lesbianism by vignesh sivan, teen *** and the mental trauma the family especially the mother undergoes directed by gautam vasudev menon.

Moothon on Malayalam was also good.. although the love story is too short...but two main stream actors playing gay characters was really good...and nothing over the top...

@ Fatchubbyboobs

> they should show the real gay stories which are happening in our world

Are you sure about this? It will be entertaining for sure but no one will make a movie about a guy who wakes up in the morning checks Ohmojo, goes to a nearest public toilet, waits around for other people to make eye contact, gives someone a quick HJ, then heads in a local train 2x2 to do the same to an unsuspecting passenger, gets beaten up, gets down at oshiwara, goes to body n mind spa for a massage, tries to seduce a straight masseur, gets turned down but then the guy agrees for a simple HJ for extra 1k, our hero pays and gets the worst handjob ever. Then he heads back home orders dinner on Swiggy and opens the door in a tight underwear only for the delivery guy. The delivery guy doesn’t even look at him and he rues at his 25th failed attempt. At night he gets into his car with his crossdressing costume and heads to wadala truck terminal to try and seduce some truck drivers while in drag. On the way while driving he wonders, “why can’t I find true love?” - The end

You know the real stories, like you asked. To make it fit for Netflix we can have characters from all castes and religions. We can take care that the people shown in negative light, like the person who beats him up in the train, is not a Muslim or lower caste, so as to not hurt any investor sentiments. It can be a great commentary on how the majority community in the country is highly regressive (just like the other 1500 commentaries over the past few years that we have come to enjoy) and how our people are persecuted, with no responsibility of theirs.

Would love to see a real gay story just like you suggested @Fatchubbyboobs instead of some romanticised version where two good looking (but diverse!) men fall in love.

@tsamarnai .not necessary all gay men have the same schedule and story as yours...they can show how gay men use people for *** in the name of love and relationships.. How few rob , black mail , sugar daddies ...how gay men walk prides but they them selves dont have unity ....how they look upon sizes , color , tops , bottoms ...how they are treated ...how cops , goondas molest gays ...there are many stories which can be shown ...not just a train encounter a massager ...and a man opening ohmojo grindr and pr ....all gays mens lives are not the same ...step out of your own bubble and try to observe ...you will get to see know many stories if you can

Guys please don't endup in spat ... discussion is key , everyone had there own good n bad realities in life not everything is acceptable to all let it be online web series or fir name sake @tsamarnai just expressed his view ...n he's not totally wrong
Most of the time both victims n hunters r in LESBIAN GAY BISEXUAL AND TRANSGENDERS COMMUNITY and also in straight world ....
Victims shy away to avoid then be seen as loosers , hunters hideup there cruelly in mask of there community.

Web series r best platform but as @tsamarnai said those series r also of biased agenda based motives ...not all good works get chance in web channels

@tsamaranai - Why don't u write the script ? And access the community on social media to.make the film. It is a great story and a good film. You can then send it to kashish film festival. If well made it can give you recognition at many film festivals. You can tell more stories of the community in India.

Umm because I am not trained as a script writer, already have a job and am not looking for a break in the toxic film industry?

But looks like that goes on to mean that “if you don’t like it, make your own, instead of expressing your opinion” and that’s as poor an argument as they go.

No no. I genuinely felt it is a good idea and you could pursue it. No compulsion. No one can force anything on you, I am sure you know that. :-) I dont want to argue at all . :-)

Just watched paava kathaigal. Loved sathaar role. As a continuation i would love to see a film where trans ppl are treated in work and society across different parts of world. A well educated trans finds it hard to climb over the top in india vs other western countries and i see in US there are strict rules and laws in place to not discriminate them and treat them well in public. I have worked with them here first with a trans manager I had huge respect for. My best friend while doing a travel job was a lesbian and was such a fun listening to her stories and how she was wrongly treated while in Jail and she has a 19 yr old son such an eye candy and she knows i had such a big crush on her son but he was strictly straight and we would just hug and pat & nothing else b/w us and obviously his GF was stunning and they both made a perfect couple. I'm still in touch with my friend. She shares her happiness and sorrow with me. Currently, i work with a gay guy in my team who is out gay and is married to a guy from brasil and a very nice guy. So my point is unless if ppl who are gay/lesbian/trans allowed to take top notch posts like a country leader, the richest person, the top notch same *** actor to many more big companies ceo like tim cook and paypal ceo. I wish this happens more in India and indian companies so we can open a flood of ppl who are openly gay/lesbian/bi/trans and more the society will shower respect upon us.

On the brighter side..I guess we should be happy that atleast there is a push towards LGBTQ representation in mainstream platforms no matter to what extent they are romanticized to suit everyones sensibilities. We never know, this initial push might lead to more stronger and real portrayal of the community in the coming times.

All I can say is we are moving towards the right direction.. Better late than never!!!

Oh forgot to mention, I loved paava kathaigal. Specifically enjoyed kalidas and sai pallavi's performances.. They felt so real and drenched my heart. More power to them and directors for brilliant effort.

To all those asking if it's in other languages. You can watch it with English subtitles, I watched the same.

I recently discontinued Netflix subscription, but after so many posts on the new netflix original, I re subscribed to watch this so much talked about series.

I sobbed through the entire episode 1. Am a gay bottom but emotionally felt so connected to the Sathar character.
Trans/Gay botts(speaking of myself) are usually attracted to the alpha male type almost straights all the time despite knowing the fact that nothing can ever happen between us until its realized. But once the realization happens, it will just simply break the heart into thousand pieces. Now, imagine this happening on a daily basis. Just Hell.

Atleast sattar was "out of closet", but imagine, what one - who is not out of closet yet and has to go through in the name of "norm of the society".
It raises serious existential questions in ones mind, how pity and sad !

If you are born gay in India, you have born at the very wrong time..! #MayYouFindYourInnerPeace #Amen !
