Hello friends, Ayushmann khurana's gay love story movie release on 21st feb.. I am so excited to see movie.
It is the first mainstream commercial bollywood masala movie to tackle the subject of homosexuality and homophobia in pure bollywood style. It also features a proper gay kiss.

I saw this movie today, they have approached the topic of homosexuality in a very subtle manner probably in an attempt to NOT offend the mainstream audiences. In terms of physicality there is nothing much except for a few kisses however they have tried to show homosexual relationship is just like any heterosexual relationship in terms of emotions. This is the beauty of the movie all thru the movie the key message it’s trying to deliver is Not to force people to accept homosexuality it’s only trying to emphasise that “Love is Love” even if the society does not understand this atleast don’t protest it. Let Love Be!
I admit it is a bravest and till date the best attempt by the mainstream Bollywood cinema to normalise homosexuality. I wish they casted a hot looking lead opposite to Ayushmann, it would have been a good eye candy, the guy who plays his lover is average to look at. Overall a one time watch but it looks like the movie might still not attract mainstream audiences as most straight people have a very rigid mindset when it comes to sexuality.

@rogertoni22 gay people seriously need to look beyond this top/bottom bullshit. Not everybody believes in such ridiculous stereotypes. Gay people are so much more than these infantilising tags. |

I saw the movie today. Awesome movie. Gay relationship is shown like a regular story and not gone over board or preachy.
One thing I would mention is that is was a really good move to cast Jitendra opposite Ayushmann. They could have taken a hot looking guy too but then this would have been all about looks and lust. By taking a normal looking guy, they have provided ground and gravity to the story and forced people to look beyond look and threat them as just two individuals in love.
Kudos to the team for taking the bravest attempt to portray a love story of two men. |

Chennai: Velachery: I have never been to see an Indian Film, but would quite like to try that out. Now, if someone next to me started groping my XL *** at the same time, I am sure I would not mind so much that the words of the film are not in English ;-) Would you like to be that person? Would not mind a couple either - one on each side? Are there any cinemas in Chennai which would allow a little more action in the last row? Anybody up for *** my *** while I am watching my first Bollywood Movie? That would be awesome! I would be free from Friday 28th to Sunday. Preferably easy to reach from Velachery, Chennai. I do not have a car. |

Awesome movie. A pure family entertainer with a gay love storyline. It goes a great way in normalising a same-*** relationship and they haven't shown any make-out scenes, no over the top gay-bashing jokes or unrealistic gay bullying by cops, blackmailers or extreme homophobism.
Literally a next-door love story about two middle-class boys.
Good point by @desipurebtm that they have shown an average looking guy as hero which shows they want the story to take the lead and not hunky-dory showshaa..(Dostana?)
Typical middle-class brahmin family from UP and how it deals with their only son coming out as gay. Super cool cousin sister and even they bring in the topic of the marriage of convenience.
Editing is quite patchy and screenplay could have been a bit taut. Dialogues and quite witty. Direction oozes novices.
Still, despite such flaws...this film is a pathbreaking cinema.
Thanks to the team.

Kindly give proper information. After bollywood movie named "Straight" where a kiss also there , is Subh Mangal Zyada Savdhan which is next homophobic movie of bollywood ,tagging only word with " Gay" is not appropriate.

I saw the movie in PVR grand gallada chennai and off course with subtitles. First of all I was happy to see the audience clapping at the climax of the movie..
This happened in chennai for a hindi movie which by itself made me happy, the movie is definitely a "coming of age" Fresh on screen.
Rather than any cliche portrayal of gay men, the movie was more into acceptance of homosexuality by parents/family. In a hilarious way the director got this message. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

Guess the director was keen on breaking stereotypes and even chose the nursery rhyme
"Jack and Jill went up the hill" .. Why it can't be "Jack and Johnny went up the hill..
Though gay marriage and it's acceptance is a far fetched thought, applauds for the director for bringing this topic in mainstream cinema without a scandal

INDIVIEWS Reviews, Views and Previews
Friday, 21 February 2020 Shubh Mangal Jyada Savdhaan
Many of us have been at the receiving end of the aggressive promotion of this film in the past few weeks. If you have watched the interviews of the cast and the director on YouTube, or read it in the papers, you will remember Ayushman and the director, Hitesh Kewalya, saying that this film is about “normalizing” homosexuality and it is for the homophobes. And rightly so, the entire film not only tries to normalize homosexuality but Is rather obsessed with it. The film is begging and pleading homophobes to change their mindset and accept the orientation. And how does it do it? Through loads of humor. Every dialogue is a one-liner trying hard to make you laugh. And yes. Some actually do. But there is so much of it that you get overwhelmed with humor.
The writing seems desperate to hide the issue at hand and stack up directionless, irrelevant and disconnected humor scene after scene. Its as if the director is paranoid that the film might not be accepted by the audience so he has piled every scene and dialogue with desperate humor. I, personally couldn’t follow a lot of it. Slapstick sarcastic or plain, comedy is the heavy life saving jacket that the film carries throughout but sadly gets drowned by its own weight.
And in this attempt of survival the main theme or purpose of the film is lost. The characters are not developed. Every frame has too many people to fit in and all of them have their one liners being delivered breathlessly as if to tie down the audience to his chair. I understand that the film has to do well in the box office too. But the theme of sexual orientation is perceived to be so defeated that the first “main stream” film does gross injustice to it. Within the same premise of acceptance of a gay son in the middle class small-town Indian family, so much more could have been done. SO much more was expected. Jeetendra Kumar’s performance was a somewhat redeeming quality in the film.
The LGBT community should not have to try so hard to “normalize” itself. I would rather say, does have to try at all. But by trying so hard it once again is at the mercy of the straight community to deliver their judgement. To be accepted or not is in nobody’s control. It can be tried but not shoved down as humor hidden the invisible cloak of comedy. It clearly shows that the makers and the cast have not understood the issue of acceptance and homophobia.
Rating – 2.5 / 5 Want to watch a truly mainstream LGBT film ? Try Love,Simon

although everyone did perform very well imo jeetu is the USP of the movie. he came across as a next door neighbour type guy who is torn between his bf and his parents. he did his part beautifully. |

Bollywood finally grew up with this movie! And likes of kjo can now go and jump for creating patronizing caricatures of the lgbt+ just to score at mainstream box office.
I agree the comedy seemed forced in bits and it would have been nice to see a back story, but ultimately this was a tale of family acceptance and normalisation and that the film succeeded in doing to a large degree!

Saw the movie on Amazon Prime. Was a bit disappointed though.
Nothing was impactful and character development was very very superficial. Ayushman's acting was over the top (did not expect this from Ayushman) and loud. His screen time was also quite limited. Also I don't think any serious gay (or even straight) lovers will go about PDA every now and then. That too in the presence of family.
We never saw how the lead characters fall in love, why they are bound in love, never really feel the tension as the entire family was shown as comical, could never feel for the lead characters and it was way too predictable. Even with 2 hours runtime, it felt dragging.
Only good thing in the movie was Jitendtra. His acting was subtle and solid. Also kudos to the director for bringing up this topic in a mainstream movie. |

Disappointed with the way the movie was portrayed. I believe some You Tube flicks are much better.
But better that KJO movies where homosexuality is just a comic piece. |

Watch Moothon(2019) by Nivin Pauly, and thank me later.. Best movie till date on homosexual love made so far all around the globe IMO..
Not a movie for those looking for sexual or hot scenes, But for those who wanna experience pristine love between two guys can watch this precious gem and you wont regret..

Though I agree with most here, I personally liked the movie mainly for the screen play and how the critical subject was handled blended with comedy..
Though I also feel scenes about critical issues of LGBT could have done in a more serious and meaningful way, its ton times better than craps like Dostana.. Atleast SMZS has achieved partially what it intended to do and audience have atleast have some idea about the issue now ..
