I always felt the amount of importance given to women skin shows has never been given to men worldwide. Of course the reason is well known.Most of the cine personalities are men and straight. However I feel 80's was a golden period for tamil cinema to see good male skin shows. We had rustic heroes like vijayakath, cuddly bears like sathyaraj, drop dead beauties like kamal hassan, cubby uncles like prabhu, eye candies like karthick and suresh, Mr fit like anandbabu and many more. Even the most unpopular movies had atleast one bathroom scene or beach scene with the hero being barebodied and wearing a undie or shorts. Some of the one timers where so fit and beautiful and also had their bathroom song or beach song. Further village based movies had their own share of showing the heroes in erotic veeti folded high upto the waist revealing sexy legs. Unfortunately in 90's with movies becoming more metrosexual heroes became less revealing. Lets share our nostalgic scenes of 80's and if possible post the youtube url here.

Gud one Sasmathu. Since my teens were in 90s, I had a great crush on 90s heroes - Ajith tops the list followed by Surya, Vikram.
haven't discovered my orientation back then. There's a movie Ullasam starring Ajith n Vikram. They attracted me more than the mokka heroine. I was so curious to watch the bare bodies in the songs muthe muthamma n konjum manjal pookkal. Surya in aval varuvala
I have read that Karthik would insist the director to keep a shot of heroine with a swimsuit even in village subjects. There's a song athikaalai subavelai from the movie Natpu. The heroine wears a bikini n karthik in a brief which is irrelevant for the village subject.
Same case in another Telugu dubbed movie with Ramya krishnan (Kaadhal Povathillai i guess)
Kamal's body show is meendum meendum vaa (Vikram) is an absolute delight! Also glimpses of his body in a pool in the sings andhi mazhai pozhigiradhu n indha minmimikku kannil oru minnal vandhadhu are also gud ones.

@Bromance OMG you nailed it. This is exactly what I was trying to impress upon. Heroes of 80's insisted on swimsuits for heroines even if it was irrelevant and also never shyed to show their bodies in briefs and undies. Infact Kamal Hassan was so found of flaunting, that almost all of his movies had atleast one of his skin show scene. It started way back in his B&W movie arangetram where in he was shown bare bodies doing exercise. Even in soorasamharam in "naan enbathu nee allavo deve deva" song he looks more sexy than the shity heroine. He was a real eye candy in "meendum meendum va" in vikram. Compared to 80's 90's heros where are quite shy in reveling their beauties. I have never seen vijay, ajith, vikram, surya, madhavan, prabhudeva revealing much. One exception was Prasanth. He was quite cool about flaunting his hairless chest and muscular thighs in vanna vanna pookal, jeans, kilalathe song etc. Infact, i guess out of all the heroes kamal should be awarded as "ambala silk" of the century. |

Agree with that soorasamharam song. The movie was a sooramokkai though. The same heroine was shown hot in agni natchathiram. All credits to Mani n PC sreeram.

I was born in mid eighties and so my idea about 80s heroes are limited. But as far as 90s and early 2000 I could remember a few skin shows by hero. As for Kamal, he was a forerunner in all skin shows or lip locks .. Lol ;)
In my view there are a few directors who invariably have atleast one shirtless scene for the hero viz..
Director Vasanth - be it Ramesh Aravind in Keladi Kanmani, Ajith in aasai, or Arjun in Rhythm - all of his movies have a shirtless scene for hero
Director Mani Rathnam - I really doubt if he is closeted gay, cos some of the handsome most heroes of our age were introduced by him and all had a shirtless scene in his movies., arvindswamy in Roja (pudhu Velai Mazhai song), madavan in alaipayuthey ( Kaadhal sadukudu song), Dulquer Salman in OK.. Even the supporting cast in mani Ratnam movies have good looking guys. And a rain song in his movies.. (Raavan movie that Munna guy, alaipayuthey all those friends gang, even in Bombay the support cast (arvindswamy brother and colleagues))
Director Balumahendra - I don't the heroes names in his old movies but all of his movies have a scene or song where the hero is bare chested and the heroine sleeps on his chest..

@Valentine Exactly even I had the same opinion about these three directors. Balumahendra literally stripped actress archana and banuchander in most of his movies. Hope most of us here would remember the famous "oh vasantha raja then sumandha roja" song. In olden movies Muthuraman had a good physic and occasionally show up in shorts. The Oh mere dilrupa song where he romances with jayalaitha, "mella pesungal perar ketka koodathu" song with lakshmi, and the exercise scene in bhama vijayam with kanchana are few examples. I have also noticed this thing about Balu Mahendra. He mades heroes drop their shirts all his films. Kamal in Moondram Pirai is the most famous. Banuchander was an in-house stripper. Mohan just kept removing his shirt in Rettai Vaal Kuruvi. A shirtless Prashant in Vanna Vanna Pookkal folded his lungi and kicked in the air. Even the unfit and overweight Karan and Vignesh were not spared in Raman Abdulla. |
