Section 377 - Will the government repeal it?

Submitted by Life Location: Mumbai (Maharashtra, India)

There is a a curative petition against the Supreme Court's December 2013 judgement upholding the validity of section 377 in the Indian Penal Code.

Now, for the first time in the history of the fight against Sec 377, celebrity gay men and women themselves came forward and filed a petition with the Supreme Court. The SC has referred the matter to the chief justice of India to decide whether it should be clubbed with the curative petition.

I believe the main purpose of the petition was to get the courts to move on the curative petition as they have been sitting on it without any movement.

Will this latest petition have any impact on it? If the court does take the matter for hearing will it give a verdict for us or will they again shift the onus on the government? If that happens will the government pass legislation to repeal 377?

Although I don't have much hope that the government will do it as their official stand has not be for it, there is a little hope in the recent change of heart of the RSS. They have officially said that they support repealing of the law! Now this is something very surprising and refreshing. There are also a few in the current government like Arun Jaitley who have said Sec 377 should be repealed.

Will now the government follow it's ideological master's view and take steps in that direction? I'm hoping for the best. What do you guys think?

Being gay or lesb is not crime.
Bullying based on this is crime
Homosexuality is natural.
This law should be dropped. Free LGBT gropu from suppression.

People should accept otherwise the gap between society will widen and that is bad
